Job Title: Modelling and Simulation Engineer

Salary: £35,060 - £42,853 depending on qualifications and experience

What you’ll be doing:

Perform investigations into technical and operational problems and develop solutions, for both product and process performance related challenges, individually or as a member of a project team

Delivering aspects of advanced technical analyses and investigations, and development of software and solutions in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards

Deliver on time and to budget a package of engineering deliverables in the form of reports, models and other technical outputs and data

Interface with customers in software, modelling & simulation matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives;

Maintain and develop knowledge in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices)

Carry out technical investigations, including technical research, and assess and provide recommendations regarding short and long-term consequences

Your skills and experiences:

Knowledge in software development, marine engineering and naval architecture

Experience in research & development (R&D) with excellent analytical expertise, complex problem solving and a good knowledge using AI and ML in design and analysis

Ability to develop and extend new/existing analytical and specialised tools using VB, C#, C++, and Matlab software packages (Matlab, Simulink, Simscape, etc.)

Good knowledge of ship design, hull form design and optimisation, and CAD software

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with technical clarity and to make sound judgements based on experience

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Modelling and Simulation Team:

As a Modelling and Simulation Engineer, you will interface with customers, suppliers and other functions and will support the Naval Architects, Marine Engineers and Combat Systems Teams using the inhouse software tools in their daily activities.

You will support the development of specialist ship design tools and the modelling & simulation expertise in the Research and Technology Department to enhance design capabilities within key projects in BAE Systems Naval Ships.
